This information on bone and muscle health comes from the Society for Women’s Health Research's book, “The Savvy Woman Patient: How and Why Sex Differences Affect Your Health.”

The chapter on bone and muscle health is authored by Laura L. Tosi, M.D., a Society for Women’s Health Research board member and associate professor of orthopaedics and pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and director of the Bone Health Program at Children’s National Medical Center.  Dr. Tosi’s clinical practice focuses on the orthopedic care of children and adults with musculoskeletal disabilities and issues related to bone health. She received its Presidential Special Merit Award in 2000 for her outreach efforts on women’s health topics in women's health and is past chair of the Women’s Health Issues Committee of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
